About Us: A Brief History

Eddy Farm's history stretches back over 100 years to the boom days of the Delaware River. Through the 1800s, Eddy Farm was famous as an overnight stopping place for raftsmen traveling the Delaware to Philadelphia. The river's quiet eddy, known then as Patterson's Eddy, provided easy mooring for the large timber rafts. Soon after the Civil War, the Patterson family began to host summer boarders from New York City, and by the turn of the 20th century, Patterson's Farm had become famous as the Eddy Farm Hotel.

Eddy Farm is a piece of Paradise on Earth! We kept the name "Eddy," which is riverspeak for the water that flows upstream after turning a corner. it reminds us of life: On the Pennsylvania side of the river, the water rushes downstream, the way we do in everyday life. On the New York side, though, you can watch the eddy gently pull the water back upstream. God has a similar way of turning us around. In the middle of the river, the water stands still, just as God teaches us to be still and patient so that we can hear his voice. This sense of return is exactly what our retreats are all about.

Over 160 years ago, God created Eddy Farm to serve his people for such a time as this. Over theyears, the farmland evolved into a golf course, tennis courts, and buildings for guest accomodations. The ambiance that comes with a mixture of old and new, history and experience, friendliness with fun, quiet relaxation and sporting activites is what makes our guests fall in love with Eddy Farm. We invite you to get away and spend some time with us soon.
